A 25-year-old man died after he was allegedly pushed off a moving Konark Express train in the Karjat–Bhiwandi section of Maharashtra early Tuesday morning, officials said.
The victim, identified as Vinod Kamble, a resident of Pune, was travelling with his friend Ganesh Shahaji Devkar in the train’s second general coach when the incident occurred around 4:23 am.
Due to heavy crowding, the two were seated near the door. According to Devkar’s statement to police, a man approached them and asked them to move. When they refused, the suspect allegedly pushed Kamble out of the moving train.
The accused was identified as Mangesh Ramdas Dasore (40), a resident of Gajanan Nagar, Akola.
Alerted by passengers, the train escort party—RPF Head Constable RR Diwakar and Constable Yogesh Belote—intervened and detained Dasore. He was later handed over to the Government Railway Police (GRP) at Thane station for further investigation.
According to officials, Dasore confessed to the act after being caught.
“After receiving the alert, RPF ASI Nasreen Mujawar and Constable Sheshrao searched the tracks and found Kamble injured at Kilometre 93/25,” an official said. “He was rushed to the General Hospital in Karjat, where doctors declared him brought dead.”
The GRP Karjat team registered a case, and Dasore was formally arrested and placed in police custody.
Authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances that led to the fatal altercation aboard the Konark Express.
