Mangaluru Police have arrested four youths and detained a juvenile in connection with the abduction and robbery of a jewellery shop employee on September 26. The victim, Mustafa, an employee at Choice Gold, was transporting a gold bar concealed under his scooter seat when he was attacked near Venkataramana Temple on Car Street.
As Mustafa was intercepted by two men on a scooter, others in a car dragged him inside, physically assaulted him, and later abandoned him at Ekkur, escaping with the gold bar.
During the investigation, police discovered that Farish (18), a former employee of Choice Gold, had tipped off the gang about the gold delivery. The other accused have been identified as:
Safwan (23) – arranged the getaway car
Arafat Ali (18)
Faraz (19)
A juvenile, also formerly employed at the same store
Police confirmed that the gang had pre-planned the robbery, using a Suzuki Access scooter, which has since been seized. However, the getaway car and the stolen gold bar are still untraced, and a search is ongoing.
The case highlights how insider information was misused to orchestrate a violent robbery in broad daylight, and police are continuing efforts to recover the stolen gold and trace remaining evidence.
