In a major breakthrough, Mangaldai police busted an interstate truck theft racket, arresting eight individuals involved in the illegal activity. The operation, initiated on Sunday, March 30, followed a complaint from Ajoy Barman, a resident of Shantipur, Mangaldai, whose truck (Registration No. AS13AC 5614) was reported stolen under suspicious circumstances.
The truck had been parked near Sai Baba Mandir for over a month when it went missing. The investigation led to the seizure of a recovery van (Reg No. AS01Y 4088) in Basistha, allegedly used in the crime. Police also conducted a search operation in Meghalaya’s 13 Mile area, where they discovered the stolen truck dismantled into scrap. The truck parts were being loaded onto another vehicle (Reg No. HR58B 7366), and the engine was recovered from the site.
