Coimbatore: In a breakthrough in the July 12 highway robbery case, police arrested three men from Kerala’s Ernakulam district for allegedly robbing a goldsmith of Rs30 lakh near Ettimadai in Coimbatore district.
The arrested suspects were identified as Maneesh Kuttappan (31) from Mattoor, Vishnu Vidyadharan (32) from Okkal, and Joseph David (26) from Manjapra. They were apprehended near the Kerala-Tamil Nadu border. Police recovered Rs6 lakh in cash from their possession.
The K.G. Chavadi police had launched a manhunt following a complaint by K. Jayan (50) of Wadakkanchery, Thrissur, who reported that he was robbed on NH 544 at Ettimadai junction while riding a motorcycle with Rs30 lakh in cash. Jayan, employed at a goldsmith workshop in Thrissur, was intercepted by the gang on a flyover, forcibly taken into their car, and later dropped off about 1 km away after being robbed.
The police continue to investigate to trace the remaining amount and identify other possible accomplices in the robbery.
