Bommanahalli police have arrested 67-year-old vegetable vendor Mandanna from KR Pura for the murder of his daughter-in-law, 35-year-old Pramoda, at her home in Hongasandra on the night of November 15. The victim’s throat was slit between 10:30 pm and 11 pm.
Pramoda, originally from Sirsi, worked at a garment factory and had been living apart from her husband for three years. Their 16-year-old daughter stays with him in KR Pura. Initial investigations considered a romantic angle, but evidence later confirmed Mandanna’s presence at the residence on the night of the crime.
During questioning, Mandanna admitted to the murder. Police said the dispute stemmed from a loan: Mandanna had pledged his gold jewellery a year ago to lend Pramoda over ₹1 lakh, expecting repayment through EMIs. She reportedly paid only two instalments and began avoiding him, even switching her phone number.
On the night of November 15, Mandanna confronted Pramoda over the unpaid dues. After a heated argument, he stayed overnight on the sofa, waiting for her to fall asleep. He then used a kitchen knife to slit her throat, locked the door, and fled.
A murder case has been registered, and Mandanna remains in custody as police continue the investigation.
