In Belagavi, a man named Dayananda Ramu Jindrale, 33, was arrested for deceiving the public by impersonating a CBI officer. Dayananda, a resident of Anjaneya Nagar and originally from Islampur in Hukkeri Taluk, was caught after a complaint was filed by Afzal Beedi, a resident of Autonagar.
Beedi reported that Dayananda had convinced him to pay Rs 5 lakh, claiming the money was needed for the medical treatment of a friend involved in an accident. Beedi managed to provide Dayananda with Rs 50,000 in cash and two cheques totaling Rs 3 lakh, but never received any reimbursement.
Further investigation revealed that Dayananda had been using his false CBI identity to lure unemployed youth with promises of jobs in the KSRTC, Forest Department, and Excise Department in exchange for money. He targeted people in Belagavi and surrounding areas such as Nippani, Raibag, Kagawad, Chikkodi, and Harugeri.
Upon arrest, police found Dayananda in possession of multiple ATM cards (10-12) and a fake Forest Department ID card. He was produced before the court, and further investigations are ongoing to determine the full extent of his fraudulent activities.
