In a shocking case of identity fraud, a man was arrested for impersonating a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) in Bhubaneswar on Monday. The accused, identified as Manas Ranjan Senapati from Basudevpur, Bhadrak, had been deceiving people by posing as a high-ranking police officer. He used a fake police uniform and forged ID card to carry out his fraudulent activities.
The arrest took place during a routine night patrol when Commissionerate Police officials stopped a car. The driver, Manas Ranjan Senapati, falsely identified himself as a probationer DSP with the Odisha Police Service. His accomplice, Ashis Swain, claimed to be a probationer constable. Upon suspicion, the police recovered a cap labeled SI/ASI and a forged ‘Odisha Police’ board from the dashboard of the car.
Further investigation revealed that Senapati had created a completely fake persona, using his forged identity to promise government jobs in exchange for hefty bribes. His fake identity card, bearing the Odisha Police emblem, made him appear legitimate to the public, allowing him to deceive several individuals.
In addition to the identity fraud, authorities also discovered fake currency amounting to Rs 1.93 lakh in Senapati’s possession. This raised concerns about his involvement in other criminal activities, including counterfeiting and financial fraud.
Senior officials of the Commissionerate Police stated that the accused had been running this fraudulent scheme for months, tricking numerous people into trusting him with the promise of securing government jobs. They urged citizens to be vigilant and verify the credentials of individuals claiming to be government officials, as this case serves as a reminder of how fraudsters manipulate trust for personal gain.
