Pantnagar Police in Ghatkopar East arrested Sanjay Kokre, a 40-year-old man, for allegedly assaulting his wife and smothering their 4-month-old daughter to death on February 28, 2025. The incident, which shocked the local community, took place in Kamraj Nagar.
The complainant, Shaila Kokre, the wife of the accused, stated in her report that the couple had been having increasing arguments ever since the birth of their third child. The accused had expressed dissatisfaction with having another baby, which led to heightened tension at home.
On the morning of February 28, around 9:45 am, after Shaila returned home, a heated argument broke out between the two. According to her complaint, the argument escalated, and Sanjay Kokre assaulted his wife before smothering their infant daughter in her crib.
The incident was reported to Pantnagar Police Station on March 1, and Sanjay Kokre was arrested shortly thereafter. He is being held on charges under Section 103 (1) BNS. A sub-inspector at the station confirmed that further investigations are ongoing, with additional evidence and witness statements being gathered.
