Man Arrested for Assaulting Sedano’s Security Guard with Machete Handle in Little Havana

Yuris Jiménez Linares charged with aggravated assault after injuring guard during attempted theft

MIAMI — On Wednesday morning, Yuris Jiménez Linares, 38, was arrested after allegedly attacking a security guard at Sedano’s supermarket in Little Havana with the handle of a machete.

The incident occurred around 10:40 a.m. at the Sedano’s located at 1263 West Flagler Street. Police received a call reporting an assault involving a machete.

According to Miami Police spokesperson Mike Vega, Jiménez, who is of Cuban origin, was caught attempting to steal merchandise from the store. When confronted by a security guard and a manager, a physical altercation ensued. During the fight, Jiménez struck the security guard on the head with the handle of a machete, causing injuries that rendered the guard unconscious.

Two witnesses intervened and detained Jiménez until police arrived to make the arrest.

The injured security guard was transported to Jackson Memorial Hospital and is currently in stable condition. Authorities clarified that no stabbing occurred, and the investigation remains ongoing.

Jiménez faces charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and assault.
