VALLEY STREAM, N.Y. — A 19-year-old Queens man was arrested Tuesday after allegedly attempting to steal property from a Macy’s store at Green Acres Mall while carrying a firearm, according to Nassau County police.

Authorities identified the suspect as Malik Thorpe, a Queens resident. Police said officers responded to the mall following a report of a larceny in progress. During the investigation, officers discovered that Thorpe was in possession of a gun.

Thorpe was taken into custody and charged with one count of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, one count of third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, one count of criminal possession of a firearm, and two counts of petit larceny, police said.

His arraignment was scheduled to take place Tuesday.

As with all criminal cases, the charges are allegations, and Thorpe is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
