WOONSOCKET, R.I. — Police arrested two people Saturday on drug and firearm charges following a traffic stop in Woonsocket.
According to the Woonsocket Police Department, officers pulled over 50-year-old Malda Tyks and her boyfriend, 35-year-old David Kennedy, on Holder Lane for a seat belt violation.
During the stop, officers noticed crack cocaine in plain view in the car’s door panel. A search revealed that Kennedy was in possession of 2.2 ounces of fentanyl and a loaded magazine, police said.
Officers then found a loaded 9mm firearm in Tyks’ purse, along with a small additional amount of fentanyl. Several unidentified pills were also seized and sent for testing.
Police said they also recovered $933 in cash from the vehicle.
Kennedy, who is a convicted felon on federal probation, and Tyks were both taken into custody and charged with multiple drug and firearm offenses.
