In a significant operation against drug trafficking, the Lumding Police have seized a large haul of narcotic tablets during a crackdown on Diphu Road. Acting on intelligence, police intercepted a vehicle with the registration number WB 74 AW 0889 and found 49,248 narcotic tablets concealed inside. The seized drugs are valued at approximately Rs. 2.46 crore, marking one of the biggest anti-drug operations in the area in recent times.
Two men, Bhaskar Sarkar and Yasin Ali, both from Nagaon, were arrested along with the drugs. Authorities believe this operation has dismantled a major drug network in the region, and investigations are ongoing to uncover further connections and perpetrators involved in the illegal trade.
In related news, last month, the East Guwahati Police Department executed a successful operation, arresting two individuals, Libion Boro (18) and Julius Majaw (23), from Byrnihat. The duo was apprehended at Jorabat Crossing, and the police seized 17 vials of heroin, weighing 22.7 grams, along with two mobile phones.
Additionally, South Salmara Mankachar police conducted a special anti-narcotics operation in the Kharuabandha OP area of Assam’s South Salmara Mankachar district, resulting in the arrest of another drug peddler and the seizure of illegal substances. The crackdown on drug trafficking continues as authorities remain vigilant to combat the growing narcotic trade in the region.
