Chetganj Police have successfully apprehended Mahendra Mishra and Devendra Mishra, two notorious drug dealers, following a tip-off received from a peddler who was arrested the previous day during a routine checking operation under Operation Chakravyuha. The duo had long been wanted by the police under the NDPS Act, and a reward of Rs25,000 was offered for their capture.
The arrest took place late on Saturday, and ADCP Kashi Zone, T Saravanan, confirmed that the police seized a country-made pistol, two cartridges, and 17 litres of illicit liquor from the accused. Their arrests represent a major breakthrough in the ongoing crackdown against the drug syndicates operating in the city.
The arrest followed the interrogation of Aniket Chauhan, a drug peddler arrested on Friday with a consignment of narcotics. During questioning, Chauhan, a native of Ekauni Kuruhja village in Chandauli district, revealed that Mahendra and Devendra Mishra were the main suppliers, responsible for distributing narcotics through agents like him.
Mahendra Mishra confessed that he ran a narcotics network primarily in Varanasi, where he had established connections with local drug users and coordinated the delivery of drugs via peddlers. His brother, Devendra Mishra, sourced and transported marijuana, heroin, and cocaine from outside the city.
The Mishra brothers already had multiple cases registered against them for selling narcotics in Varanasi, Sultanpur, and several other areas. Police officials are now conducting further investigations into their operations.
