Canacona, Goa: In a major drug seizure, the Canacona Police arrested Mahammad Farman, a 30-year-old from Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh, with MDMA worth Rs5.7 lakh near the Canacona cemetery, close to the Chaudi bus stand, on September 23.
Acting on a tip-off about a suspicious individual loitering near the cemetery, a team led by PSI Babu Desai reached the spot and apprehended the accused. Upon checking, police found a substance that was later confirmed to be methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA), weighing 28.9 grams.
Farman, who was staying at a guest house in Colomb, Canacona, was allegedly waiting to meet a buyer when caught.
A case has been registered under Section 20(b)(ii)(B) of the NDPS Act, 1985. The accused was produced before the Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC), Canacona, and has been remanded to two-day police custody pending further inquiry.
