The distinct walking style of a burglar captured in CCTV footage helped the Mahalunge MIDC police crack a jewellery burglary case from September of last year. The police not only arrested the burglar but also recovered 260 grams of stolen gold ornaments, which had been sold to a jeweller in Bihar’s Motihari.
The burglar, identified as Tullu Kumar Raut (25), was arrested by the Mahalunge MIDC police team, led by Senior Inspector Nitin Gite. Raut, who currently resides in Pawar Vasti in Chikhali, hails from East Champaran district in Bihar. Along with Raut, the jeweller Baleshwar Sah (45) of Motihari was also arrested, and the stolen gold was recovered from his possession.
The case began on September 20 last year when a 42-year-old resident of Kuruli in Khed taluka reported a burglary. The victim stated that between 11:30 AM and 12:45 PM, someone had broken into his house, stealing 260 grams of gold jewellery while he was at work and his wife was at their footwear shop.
Assistant Police Inspector Kalyan Ghadge of Mahalunge MIDC police explained that after reviewing CCTV footage from the area, the police noticed a man with a distinctive gait. Several individuals were questioned, but the suspect remained elusive until further investigation led to his arrest.
The breakthrough in the case came when the police traced the stolen jewellery to a jeweller in Motihari, Bihar, who had unknowingly purchased the stolen gold. The successful operation has brought closure to the case and highlighted the crucial role of CCTV evidence in solving crimes.
