Madurai city police have apprehended a 45-year-old man, V Kathirvel, for forging and selling fake medical certificates to a differently-abled individual. The fraud came to light when the disabled man, Ganesan from M Kallupatti, used the forged certificates to submit an application during the ‘Ungaludan Stalin’ grievance redressal camp held in Peraiyur on August 20.
N. Saminathan, a welfare officer for differently-abled persons in Madurai, noticed discrepancies while reviewing Ganesan’s application and filed a police complaint. Upon investigation, Ganesan admitted purchasing the counterfeit certificates from Kathirvel, a resident of Perumalpatti, M Kallupatti.
Following Saminathan’s complaint, the Tallakulam police registered a case and arrested Kathirvel. He sold the fake certificates for Rs2,000. Kathirvel is currently charged under sections 336(2), 336(3), and 340(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which include forgery and the use of forged documents. Further investigations are underway.
