Madurai Man M Ananthan Arrested for Fatal Hit-and-Run Killing 4

Speeding car kills 4 pedestrians near Kunjampatti; driver flees, later caught

Madurai district police have arrested a man who fled the scene after his speeding car rammed into a group of pedestrians, killing four and injuring three others near Kunjampatti on the Usilampatti–Theni Main Road on Saturday night.

The incident occurred around 8:40 PM when Jothika (25), her son J Pragalathan (3), and relatives K Lakshmi (50) and J Pandiselvi (42) were fatally hit while crossing the road near the Kunjampatti bus stop. All four died on the spot.

Jothika’s one-year-old daughter, Kaviyazhini, along with relatives P Jeyapandi (45) and Karupayee (55), sustained injuries and were admitted to Government Rajaji Hospital. Kaviyazhini and Karupayee remain in critical condition with severe head and facial injuries.

Police identified the driver as M Ananthan (32) of Usilampatti. He initially fled the scene but was later apprehended. The Usilampatti Taluk police booked him under Sections 281, 125(a), and 106(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for causing death by negligence and endangering life.

Further investigation is underway.
