Maddison Boothe Charged in GoFundMe Fraud Case

Alabama woman accused of fake fundraiser after crash

by Sophia Bennett

A woman in Bibb County, Alabama, is facing criminal charges after authorities say she created a fraudulent GoFundMe fundraiser to collect money under false pretenses.

According to court records, Maddison Boothe allegedly set up a fundraising campaign on GoFundMe claiming the money would support the family of a man who died in a motorcycle crash on January 8, 2026.

Investigators say the online fundraiser brought in more than $2,500 before authorities uncovered the alleged scheme.

Court documents state that Boothe did not have permission from the victim’s family and is accused of keeping the donated funds for herself.

Boothe has been charged with first-degree theft of property. She was taken into custody and booked into the Bibb County Jail.

Authorities have not yet released additional details about the case or whether the collected donations will be returned to those who contributed.
