EDMONTON — Mackenzie Dawn Hardy, 24, an Alberta woman who Crown prosecutors say was wrongfully released from a Fort Saskatchewan Correctional Centre with allegedly forged release documents, has been arrested in British Columbia.
The RCMP announced that Hardy was taken into custody this week in Revelstoke, alongside a 27-year-old man, David Joseph Wood, who is accused of assisting in her escape. Wood faces charges including aiding in the escape of a prisoner, identity fraud, and uttering a forged document.
“Both Hardy and Wood have appeared before a justice of the peace and are now remanded in custody,” the RCMP said Thursday. “They will be transported back to Alberta for upcoming court proceedings.”
Hardy had been held on multiple charges, including possession of stolen property, impaired driving, and driving without insurance or registration after her arrest in March. Her release from custody was reportedly authorized based on documents stating her charges were stayed, which later proved to be counterfeit.
Following her release, Hardy posted videos on TikTok taunting law enforcement and insisting the papers were legitimate, calling her release a “gift from God.”
RCMP have now added a charge of escaping lawful custody against her.
