Suryapet Police arrested a woman identified as M Yashoda, a resident of Khammam, in connection with the burglary at Santoshi Jewellers that took place a week ago. Police recovered 14 tolas of stolen gold from her possession.
Authorities revealed that Yashoda is part of a seven-member gang, which includes three Nepalese nationals — Prakash Anil Kumar, Kadak Singh, and one unidentified individual — as well as B Amar and two others from Jharkhand. These six individuals remain at large.
According to investigators, the group traveled to Khammam after the burglary and handed over part of the stolen gold to Yashoda to cover her expenses. Yashoda is reportedly in a relationship with Prakash, the gang’s alleged mastermind, whom she met through Kadak Singh. She has a criminal history and is said to have previously assisted the duo in other thefts, including at banks and jewellery stores.
The group had conspired to carry out the Suryapet robbery knowing they were unknown in the area. Under the guise of setting up a food business, they rented a house near Santoshi Jewellers and conducted several days of surveillance.
On July 21, they broke into the store by creating a hole in a washroom wall and used a gas cutter to access the store room containing ornaments. In total, they made away with around 2.5 kg of gold, estimated to be worth over Rs1.5 crore.
Suryapet Police are continuing the investigation and pursuing leads to arrest the remaining six accused.
