A 47-year-old man, R Dhamotharan, was killed in a hit-and-run accident near his residence in Senthaneerpuram, Trichy, on Wednesday evening. The driver, identified as M Rajiv Khan, 36, from Thiruppalai, is absconding, although police have traced and seized the vehicle involved.
The fatal incident occurred around 7 p.m. near a car showroom on the Chennai-Madurai bypass road, when Dhamotharan was crossing at the road median. According to police, the car was being driven rashly and negligently, striking Dhamotharan with significant force.
Despite his family’s quick response in rushing him to Trichy General Hospital, doctors declared him dead on arrival.
Based on a complaint from his father, V Radhakrishnan, the Ponmalai police registered a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). An autopsy was conducted on Thursday at the hospital.
Police have located and seized the vehicle involved in the incident, but the accused M Rajiv Khan remains untraced. A full-fledged investigation is underway, and authorities are making efforts to apprehend the absconding driver.
