LYONS, GA – The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) has arrested 30-year-old Lyons Police Officer Dustin Matejcik on charges of Violation of Oath of Office and Theft. The arrest follows an investigation into a theft incident involving an arrested individual’s personal items.
On April 1, 2025, the GBI arrested and charged Matejcik, a resident of Glennville, Georgia, with one felony count of Violation of Oath of Office and one felony count of Theft by Taking. The arrest stems from an incident on March 22, 2025, when Matejcik assisted another officer with a traffic stop that led to an arrest. The arrested person requested that their personal items, including money, passport, and keys, be given to an arriving employer to retrieve.
While the other officer took the arrested individual to jail, Matejcik was left alone at the scene. The following day, March 25, the Lyons Police Department was contacted about retrieving the personal belongings. However, the items could not be located, and the investigation revealed that no one had arrived to retrieve the belongings.
Further investigation found that Matejcik never turned over the items, which were taken from the arrested individual, to evidence. As a result, Matejcik was booked into the Toombs County Detention Center.
The case remains under investigation, and once complete, the file will be submitted to the Middle Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office for prosecution.
