The Jorhat Police have apprehended a gang of thieves responsible for multiple residential burglaries earlier this month, along with two jewellers who purchased the stolen gold.
The gang struck at Madhukunj Apartment on February 5 and ABG Heights near Na-Ali flyover on February 7, breaking iron grilles and gates to target flats when owners were away. CCTV footage captured the masked thieves. Over Rs 30 lakh worth of gold jewellery and valuables were looted in these two incidents.
A special police team, led by Hrishikesh Hazarika, officer-in-charge of Jorhat Police Station, traced leads to Dalgaon in Darrang district, resulting in the arrest of three gang members: Lukman Ali, Saidur Rahman, and Nur Mohammad Ali.
Investigators also arrested two jewellers, Abu Bakkar Siddique of Dalgaon and Imran Ahmed of Chapra, Barpeta district, for buying the stolen gold.
All five accused are currently being interrogated at Jorhat Police Station, and police are continuing investigations to ensure full recovery of stolen items and dismantle the burglary network.
