HILO (HawaiiNewsNow) — A Hawaii Island man, Luke Ollis, 39, has been arrested in connection with sexual assault charges involving a minor dating back more than a decade.
Ollis was taken into custody on July 17, 2025, by U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents upon arrival at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport from Taiwan. He was then transported back to Hawaii Island by investigators from the Hawaii County Prosecutor’s Office.
According to authorities, a Hilo grand jury indicted Ollis on April 24, 2024, for incidents that allegedly occurred between November 2012 and February 2013. The charges include first-degree sexual assault (a class A felony) and two counts of third-degree sexual assault (class C felonies).
At a court appearance in Hilo Circuit Court, a judge increased Ollis’s bail from $150,000 to $500,000. He is expected to return to court on September 10 for a hearing on a motion to deny bail entirely. A jury trial is scheduled for January 20, 2026.
Investigators say Ollis had been living in Indonesia before traveling through Taiwan and ultimately being detained in Seattle.
If convicted, Ollis faces up to 20 years in prison for the first-degree charge and up to five years for each third-degree charge. As with all criminal cases, the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
