SELMA, NC – A construction worker from Little River, South Carolina, has been arrested and charged with filing a false police report after reporting a stolen vehicle. Luke Hnatkoich, 40, was taken into custody on December 19 after he allegedly contacted the police to report that his employer’s 2021 Chevrolet Silverado had been stolen overnight from the Quality Inn parking lot in Selma.

However, upon further investigation, Hnatkoich reportedly admitted to police that he had rear-ended a tractor-trailer on Interstate 95. He claimed he wasn’t sure how to handle the situation. Authorities found no record of such a crash on I-95 during the reported timeframe.

Hnatkoich was charged with filing a false police report, a misdemeanor, and was granted a $500 bond.
