TAMPA, Fla. (CBS12) — What began as a routine traffic stop for a faulty taillight ended with the arrest of a Florida man on multiple felony charges, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO).
Deputies pulled over Luis Serrano, 53, near West Hillsborough Avenue and Sawyer Road on Tuesday. Body camera footage shows Serrano being stopped at a gas station and speaking with deputies.
As the officers pointed out the malfunctioning light, they noticed a wad of cash in Serrano’s hand. “I work in the club,” he told them, according to the video.
Deputies soon discovered that Serrano may have had an active warrant, leading to his detention. A search of his vehicle turned up a stolen firearm, cocaine, cannabis, and more than $2,200 in cash, authorities said.
Serrano was taken into custody and now faces several felony charges, including felon in possession of a firearm, armed possession of cocaine with intent to sell or deliver, and driving with a suspended license.
The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office has not released further details about the ongoing investigation.
