ICE Arrests Luis Mendoza-Gonzalez in Connection to Megan Bos Corpse Case
On July 19, 2025, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers in Chicago arrested 52-year-old Luis Mendoza-Gonzalez, a Mexican national charged earlier in April with concealing the body of missing woman Megan Bos. Bos, 37, was found decapitated in a bleach storage container in Mendoza’s yard in Waukegan, Illinois, after being reported missing on March 9, 2025.
Despite the severity of the charges—which also include abuse of the corpse and obstruction of justice—Lake County Judge Randie Bruno released Mendoza after his initial court appearance. Following his release, he was free to roam Chicago’s streets before ICE’s recent arrest.
Currently, Mendoza is held at Lake County Jail pending further proceedings.
Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin condemned the judge’s decision to free Mendoza, calling it “absolutely repulsive” given the nature of the crime. She emphasized that under President Trump and Secretary Noem, justice will be served for Megan Bos and her family.
The Department of Homeland Security’s VOICE (Victims of Immigration Crime Engagement) office, relaunched by Secretary Noem, provides support to victims of crimes connected to immigration. The office was initially launched in 2017 but had been shuttered by the previous administration.
