SHEBOYGAN FALLS, Wis. — New details have emerged in the shooting incident on September 24 in Sheboygan Falls, which resulted in the death of Canadian tourist Giovanni “Mike” Robinson, 32.
Police responded around 12:08 a.m. to reports of gunfire in the 600 block of Monroe Street. Upon arrival, officers found Robinson with a single gunshot wound to the chest. Despite life-saving efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Witnesses, who were traveling with Robinson on a father-son golf trip from out of state, told police they had been celebrating Robinson’s earlier hole-in-one at a local tavern. They stated they attempted to arrange a ride back to their hotel via an Uber but were unsuccessful.
According to the criminal complaint, the group encountered a Hispanic man driving a black SUV, later identified as 35-year-old Luis Cruz-Burgos. They reportedly offered to pay for a ride, but a dispute arose over the fare. The men ultimately decided to walk back to their hotel.
While walking on Monroe Street, witnesses reported seeing the black SUV turn around, slow down, and fire at Robinson before speeding away.
Cruz-Burgos was arrested on Friday following a search warrant executed at his residence on Kroos Court. In statements to police, he said he was delivering food at the time and recalled the men seeking a ride but denied any argument over money or any firearm use. He admitted to making a U-turn and driving past the group but denied seeing any shooting.
Cruz-Burgos faces charges of first-degree reckless homicide as the investigation continues.
