Richardson man accused of stealing $106 in merchandise

Luis Bautista Arrested for Shoplifting at Sulphur Springs Walmart

April 15, 2025 – Sulphur Springs, TX — A Richardson man, identified as Luis Contrerras Bautista, 29, has been arrested after allegedly stealing merchandise from the Walmart on Broadway Street in Sulphur Springs.

The incident occurred Monday evening around 7:55 PM, when Walmart staff and officers observed Bautista bypassing all points of sale with items valued at $106.57, without making any attempt to pay.

According to the arrest affidavit, loss prevention personnel contacted local police, who responded promptly. Store surveillance footage and staff statements confirmed the theft. Following an investigation at the scene, Bautista was taken into custody without incident by the Sulphur Springs Police Department.

He was booked into the Hopkins County Jail and now faces a misdemeanor theft charge for property valued between $100 and $750.
