WILMINGTON, DE — A 26-year-old New Castle man is facing serious felony charges following a shoplifting incident that escalated into an alleged robbery at a Royal Farms store in Wilmington on Friday afternoon.
The Delaware State Police reported that on March 14, 2025, at approximately 12:07 p.m., officers responded to a robbery call at the Royal Farms located on South Market Street. Investigators say Luis Andino entered the store, grabbed a fountain drink, and concealed additional items before bypassing the cash registers without paying.
When confronted by a store employee, Andino briefly left the store but returned shortly after, this time brandishing a box cutter. Following an intense verbal exchange, Andino allegedly threw the fountain drink at the employee and attempted to leave. However, he returned a second time with the weapon, leading to a physical altercation between the two before police arrived and took Andino into custody without further incident. Authorities confirmed that the employee was not injured.
Andino was charged with Attempted Robbery in the First Degree, a felony offense. He was transported to Delaware State Police Troop 2 and held on a $25,000 cash bond after his arraignment at Justice of the Peace Court 2.
