Ludhiana police have busted a gang behind a series of tyre thefts from cars parked in residential areas, arresting five members and seizing 31 stolen tyres along with a Hyundai Verna allegedly used in the crimes.
The arrested individuals are:
Gurjeet Singh
Shivraj Singh
Manoj Kumar alias Amit
Balwinder Singh alias Jashan
Mandeep Singh alias Deepu
Police noted that Jashan and Deepu, both scrap dealers, allegedly purchased the stolen tyres.
According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP city) Rupinder Singh, the gang had been active in Ludhiana for the past month. The accused reportedly scouted residential colonies, marked new cars and SUVs, and carried out the thefts at midnight. They have confessed to stealing tyres from nine vehicles, primarily in Deep Singh Nagar, Upkar Nagar, and Kundanpuri.
The gang members were caught on CCTV footage during two incidents, and technical analysis helped police trace and apprehend them. An FIR under Sections 303(3) and 3(5) of the BNS has been registered at Division Number 8 Police Station.
Division Number 8 SHO, Sub-Inspector Amarjeet Singh, explained that Gurjeet and Shivraj carried out the thefts, Manoj acted as a middleman, and Jashan and Deepu bought the stolen tyres. The gang confessed to choosing Ludhiana due to its luxury vehicles and the perceived distance from Amritsar to avoid detection.
Police officials added that further interrogation may uncover additional cases linked to the gang.
