In a major breakthrough against a drug syndicate with links to Hawala operations, Ludhiana Police arrested a drug smuggler on Sunday. The accused, Abhi, a resident of Gali No. 1, Ward No. 51, Ludhiana, was found in possession of 1.560 kg of heroin. His arrest followed information provided by four other accused who were apprehended earlier.
According to SSP Abhimanyu Rana, two of the accused were juveniles from a four-member gang, from whom Rs. 9.62 lakh in Hawala money and a motorcycle were recovered. The gang operated at an interstate level, primarily involved in the drug trade and money laundering.
The SSP revealed that the gang had strong links in Delhi and Maharashtra and was primarily responsible for laundering drug money. A case has been filed against Abhi at the city police station, and investigations are ongoing.
