Ludhiana police arrested seven persons on charges of possessing, distributing, and consuming drugs, including heroin and habit-forming tablets, violating various sections of the NDPS Act.
The suspects were apprehended from different locations on Saturday, with police seizing a total of 161 grams of heroin along with several tablets.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ankur Gupta said, acting on a tip-off, police teams led by DSP (I) Inderjit Singh Boparai and SI Gursewak Singh arrested Vishal Kalian, alias Locha, from Gandhi Nagar, Jagraon, and Jaswant Singh Sonu from Galib village near Talwandi-Nurpura road. They recovered 152 grams of heroin and a motorcycle used in the crime.
In a separate operation under the Raikot Sadar police station, officers led by Jagdeep Singh apprehended Gurpreet Singh Gora, Karandeep Singh, and Gurmukh Singh from Boparai Khurad village near Barmi, recovering 9.32 grams of heroin.
Further, the Raikot police, under SI Amarjit Singh, arrested Gurpreet Singh, alias Ajai, who was reportedly supplying habit-forming tablets. Police seized 50 tablets from him and are searching for additional hidden stock.
In another case, ASI Manohar Lal of Sudhar police station arrested Rajandeep Singh from Dhaliwal Patti, Sudhar, for alleged drug consumption.
The police have intensified efforts to curb narcotics in the region and continue investigations into the network involved.
