Ludhiana police have apprehended Jawahar Parsad, a resident of Bihar, seizing 2.6 kilograms of opium and Rs 2.5 lakh in drug money from his possession during a routine patrol in Jhammat.
According to a joint statement by Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Harpal Singh, ADCP (Crime) Amandeep Singh Brar, ACP (Crime) Rajesh Kumar Sharma, and Special Cell Inspector Navdeep Singh, the suspect was stopped on suspicion and checked by officers.
During the search, the narcotics and cash were recovered, leading to Parsad’s arrest and registration of a case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
Preliminary interrogation revealed that Parsad was waiting to deliver drugs to a client and had previously supplied drugs within the city. Police officials stated that they are seeking his police remand to extend questioning, aiming to dismantle the larger drug supply chain. Vital leads have already been obtained, and local drug peddlers suspected to be involved are under surveillance.
