Three people were arrested in Folsom early Saturday morning in connection with an alleged mail theft operation, according to the Folsom Police Department.
Police said their investigation into recent mail thefts prompted officers to install alert systems on targeted mailboxes to detect suspicious activity during early morning hours.
Just after 3 a.m., officers responded to an alert and conducted a traffic stop near Empire Ranch Road and Broadstone Parkway in Folsom. Inside the vehicle, officers found two men and one woman.
During a search of the car, authorities said they recovered stolen mail, credit cards, keys for cluster mailboxes, and drug paraphernalia.
The suspects were identified as Lucero Gonzalez, 38, Tou Lor, 32, and Shawn Vang, 33. All three were arrested on multiple charges, including mail theft and identity theft.
Investigators also determined the group was allegedly driving a stolen vehicle with switched license plates. Vang faces an additional charge of auto theft.
Detectives will inventory and document the recovered mail. Unopened items will be returned to the United States Postal Service for delivery, and police said they will contact individuals whose identities may have been compromised.
