LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A 6-year-old girl is in critical condition, and her mother is facing an attempted murder charge following a horrifying case of domestic violence in the Park DuValle neighborhood of Louisville.
The Louisville Metro Police Department (LMPD) said officers were dispatched to the 2900 block of Wilson Avenue around 12:45 p.m. on Thursday after a report of a disturbance.
When police arrived, they found the young girl suffering from multiple blunt force injuries to the head. She was immediately transported to Norton Children’s Hospital, where she remains in critical condition.
Authorities arrested the girl’s mother, Zeinab Abdi, who has been charged with attempted murder (domestic violence).
According to the arrest citation, Abdi confessed during a police interview that she becomes “extremely angry” and has difficulty controlling herself. She admitted to hitting her daughter in the head with a hammer an unknown number of times.
Disturbingly, Abdi’s son told police that she said to him, “Let me finish her,” and attempted to return to attack the girl again.
Abdi is currently being held in Louisville Metro Corrections and is scheduled to be arraigned Friday morning.
