MANDAN, ND (KXNET) — Lor Shongching was sentenced following his arrest for transporting more than 200 marijuana plants near Mandan, North Dakota.
The North Dakota Highway Patrol (NDHP) stopped a vehicle last Friday on the interstate near Mandan. When approaching the driver about registration tags, the trooper detected the smell of marijuana. Shongching, a passenger in the vehicle, admitted to smoking marijuana and carrying the plants, which he intended to bring to family in Minnesota.
Despite Minnesota’s legalization of marijuana, a highway patrol sergeant informed Shongching that possession of more than 24 plants is not permitted. He was arrested for possession with intent to deliver marijuana.
Shongching’s bond was set at $2,000, with a condition to remain in North Dakota. His trial was originally scheduled for September 2nd.
However, the case was later resolved as a misdemeanor. Shongching was sentenced to 360 days with 354 days suspended, credited for 6 days served, and assigned 18 months supervised probation. Additionally, he must pay $525 in fees, complete a Chemical Dependency Evaluation, and follow through with any recommended treatment.
