Police have cracked down on a notorious Looteri Dulhan gang with the arrest of five individuals, including a woman, involved in duping victims of cash and jewellery under the guise of marriage.
The gang targeted Vesta Kalesh, a resident of Alirajpur, by marrying his younger brother, Nansingh, to a woman linked to the gang. Soon after the wedding, the couple fled with Rs1.2 lakh and a silver necklace.
Vesta filed a complaint at the Chachariya police outpost on June 30, leading to the registration of a case under various sections of the BNS. Police investigation resulted in the arrest of gang members Ilamsingh alias Ilu Barde, Kailash Chauhan, Ramdas Panwar, Hiralal Barde, and Asma Panwar.
Authorities recovered Rs65,000 in cash and 500 grams of silver jewellery from the accused. The recovered amounts include Rs15,000 and a silver necklace from Ilamsingh, Rs17,500 from Kailash, Rs15,000 from Ramdas, Rs13,000 from Hiralal, and Rs5,000 from Asma.
According to Police station in-charge Dilip Kumar Puri, Kailash befriended Vesta while working in Gujarat and promised to arrange a bride for his brother. After the marriage, the gang deceived the family by claiming they would bring the bride home but instead absconded with the valuables.
