Former officer shot, left for dead in Mississippi case

HARRISON COUNTY, Miss. (WLBT) — A Harrison County jury has convicted four suspects in the brutal 2023 kidnapping and shooting of former Warren County officer Mike Ouzts.

Logan Allan D’Elana was found guilty of kidnapping and aggravated assault. He received life in prison as a habitual offender due to three prior burglary convictions in 2018. His accomplice, Blake Menefee, took a plea deal before trial.

Ouzts, a former constable and game warden, was abducted from his Vicksburg home in January 2023. He was beaten, shot twice, and left in a storage container without food, water, or medical aid. The next day, police spotted Ouzts’ truck in Gulfport being driven by D’Elana. Fortunately, Ouzts survived despite not having eaten for three days.

Isaiah Alonzo McDonald was sentenced to 20 years for accessory after the fact, having helped D’Elana and Menefee avoid arrest. Two others, Lisa Michelle D’Elana and Anna Joy Gliddon, were charged with hindering prosecution; Gliddon took a plea deal, while prosecutors have not pursued charges against Lisa.

This case highlights both the violent nature of the crime and the extensive investigation that led to multiple convictions. The sentences bring closure after a traumatic ordeal for Ouzts and underscore the consequences of violent criminal acts.
