PARAÑAQUE CITY, PHILIPPINES — Philippine authorities have arrested Liu Feng, a Chinese national, for allegedly running a cryptocurrency investment scam from his condominium unit along Diosdado Macapagal Boulevard in Barangay Tambo.
The Bureau of Immigration (BI) Fugitive Search Unit, in coordination with the CIDG-NCR and the Department of Justice Office of Cybercrime, apprehended Liu while he was operating a computer workstation suspected of online fraud activity.
Investigators said Liu worked with another Chinese national and several accomplices in carrying out the fraudulent crypto operations.
Further checks revealed that Liu had overstayed his visa since October 2024 and was working in the Philippines without proper authorization.
He is currently in CIDG custody and will face deportation proceedings for violating Philippine immigration laws.
