by Amelia Crawford

A Virginia woman, Lindsey Renee Burnette, 37, was arrested on September 3, 2025, following the death of her two-month-old son. Burnette faces felony homicide, child abuse, and neglect charges after a months-long investigation by the Roanoke Police Department.

The case began on February 14, 2025, when officers responded to a report of an unresponsive infant in the 600 block of Hanover Avenue NW. Upon arrival, two-month-old Aka-rri Burnette-Coleman was found deceased.

Burnette told investigators she was sleeping in the same bed as the baby and discovered him unconscious. The Office of the Medical Examiner ruled the death a homicide on May 14, 2025, determining the cause as a combination of suffocation and acute methamphetamine toxicity.

Investigators concluded that Burnette had accidentally rolled onto her son while they slept. She is currently held at the Roanoke City Jail pending further proceedings.
