KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 2 — A 50-year-old man, Lim Wah Siong, was charged in the Magistrates’ Court in Petaling Jaya today with the murder of 36-year-old interior designer Muhammad Sharqawi Abu Bakar, who was stabbed 20 times in an apartment in Bandar Sri Damansara last month.
Lim, who is unemployed, was brought before Magistrate Shahril Anuar Ahmad Mustapha, where the charge was read in Mandarin. No plea was entered as the case is being handled by the High Court, as per the legal procedures.
The charge alleges that Lim Wah Siong killed Muhammad Sharqawi at 9 p.m. on September 14 in an apartment unit on Persiaran Meranti. The charge falls under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which carries the death penalty upon conviction.
The court has scheduled the next mention of the case for November 8, where updates on chemical and post-mortem reports will be discussed.
On September 16, police discovered the body of Muhammad Sharqawi, who was found with 20 stab wounds, including five to the ribs, six to the chest, and nine to the wrist. The victim had been living alone and had recently purchased the property.
Authorities initially suspected the incident could have started as a burglary but escalated into a robbery resulting in Sharqawi’s death.
