LOS ANGELES — Award-winning rapper Lil Nas X has been arrested following an altercation with police in Los Angeles, authorities confirmed.

The incident occurred early Thursday morning at around 5:30 a.m. on Ventura Boulevard after police received reports of a man walking down the street in his underwear, according to a spokesperson for the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD).

Upon arrival, officers alleged that the rapper, born Montero Lamar Hill, “charged” at them and was subsequently placed under arrest on suspicion of battery.

Following his arrest, Lil Nas X was taken to a hospital for treatment related to a possible overdose. Representatives for the rapper have not yet responded to requests for comment.

Unverified footage published by TMZ showed Lil Nas X dancing in the street wearing only underwear and cowboy boots while inviting passersby to “come to the party.”

The rapper is set to release his highly anticipated second studio album, Dreamboy, later this year and has been teasing new music on Instagram ahead of the release.

Lil Nas X rose to fame with his hit Old Town Road, becoming the first openly gay man to win a Country Music Association award in 2019. The song also won two Grammy Awards and set a record with 17 weeks at number one on the Billboard Hot 100.

Known for courting controversy, Lil Nas X faced backlash from conservatives for the provocative music video to his single Montero (Call Me By Your Name). He responded with a satirical apology video on YouTube and tweeted that he hoped his critics’ “tears” would “fill my Grammy cup.”
