Library Director Zackery Cothren Arrested for Theft

$78K taxpayer funds stolen from Cleburne County library

by Amelia Crawford

CLEBURNE COUNTY, Ark. — Arkansas State Police have arrested Zackery Cothren, the director of the Cleburne County Public Library, on charges of stealing more than $75,000 in taxpayer money.

Cothren, 47, has led the library for 20 years. Authorities say he misappropriated approximately $78,000 in public funds.

The investigation began in May after a legislative audit revealed suspicious purchases and possible fraud involving library employees.

On September 11, a judge issued an arrest warrant, and ASP special agents arrested Cothren at his home. He was booked at the Cleburne County Detention Center and later released on a $5,000 bond.
