MARTIN COUNTY, Fla. — A man with a history of bank robbery convictions is back behind bars after robbing a PNC Bank in Palm City and attempting to deposit the stolen money into his own bank account.
According to the Martin County Sheriff’s Office, 55-year-old Lewis McNack of Hollywood, Florida, entered the bank Monday afternoon, claimed to have a gun, and demanded cash from a teller. After securing the money, he fled south toward Broward County.
Authorities say the FBI, Broward Sheriff’s Office, and public tips helped investigators quickly track McNack down. In a surprising move, he was arrested just three hours later — while trying to deposit the stolen cash into his personal bank account.
Records indicate McNack has an extensive criminal past, including a 2005 bank robbery conviction in Oklahoma, for which he served over 14 years in prison.
McNack is now facing new federal and state charges related to the robbery.
