A woman involved in a gang that defrauded individuals of cash and jewellery worth £416,000 has been jailed for two-and-a-half years.

Leonnie Charles, 23, from Reading, Berkshire, participated in a fraudulent scheme targeting at least 42 victims, with the oldest being 90 years old. The gang stole money and jewellery from 27 victims across Hampshire, London, Surrey, Kent, and Sussex, amassing £116,000 in cash between February and September 2021.

Charles pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit fraud by false representation and was sentenced at Winchester Crown Court on Thursday. She denied three charges related to the possession of counterfeit currency, and those charges will lie on file.

In January, three other members of the gang were jailed at Salisbury Crown Court for their roles in the scam.
