TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – Ottisha Torres, a woman from Leon County, is one of four individuals charged in connection with a large-scale check fraud operation that stole over $500,000. The Florida Attorney General’s office announced Torres’ arrest on Monday.
Torres is accused of altering or copying stolen retirement checks, totaling more than half a million dollars. She now faces several felony charges related to the fraud.
Court records reveal that at least three men are also involved in the fraudulent scheme and are facing similar charges.
The victims of this theft ring are said to be from Miami-Dade County, where the stolen checks originated.
The Attorney General’s office is continuing to investigate the case, with Torres’ arrest marking a significant step in dismantling the fraud operation.
Authorities are urging anyone with additional information on the case to come forward as the investigation progresses.
