Lenare Leath Jr. and Teen Arrested in Separate Northwest D.C. Theft Cases

Quick arrest after robbery attempt; teen charged in two thefts

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Two suspects have been arrested in separate incidents involving theft and robbery attempts in Northwest Washington, D.C.

On [Date], around 2:53 PM, 20-year-old Lenare Leath Jr., a Northwest D.C. resident, allegedly tried to rob a victim in the 1200 block of W Street NW. According to police, Leath brandished a knife and pushed the victim to the ground, attempting to steal property. After a brief struggle, he fled without taking anything but was quickly apprehended by responding officers. The victim suffered minor injuries and was treated at a local hospital. Leath faces charges of Assault with Intent to Commit Robbery.

In a separate case, a 15-year-old boy from Northwest D.C. was arrested Wednesday in connection with two theft incidents. The first occurred on April 26, 2024, when multiple suspects entered a business in the 1000 block of F Street NW and stole merchandise. After months of investigation, police obtained a custody order for the juvenile suspect. He was also charged in a second incident on March 19, 2024, in the 3200 block of M Street NW. The teen faces two counts of First-Degree Theft. Other suspects remain at large, and the investigations are ongoing.
