LEITCHFIELD, Ky. — A teenager from Leitchfield was arrested this week after confessing to stealing a vehicle and taking items from another car.
Eighteen-year-old Ethan Tapscott of Leitchfield was taken into custody on Tuesday after two arrest warrants were executed by the Leitchfield Police Department (LPD). Tapscott was under investigation for a vehicle theft and the theft of contents from another vehicle involving a second victim.
According to officials, on Jan. 16, Tapscott allegedly stole a vehicle from South Cannon Drive and also broke into a second vehicle on West Market Street. Investigators tracked Tapscott and the stolen vehicle to Daviess County, where additional stolen items were found inside, linking him to the second theft.
While in custody, Tapscott admitted to the crimes. He is now facing charges of theft by unlawful taking or disposition of property valued between $1,000 and $10,000.
The LPD was assisted by the Daviess County Sheriff’s Department in the investigation. Tapscott is currently being held in the Grayson County Detention Center.
The LPD has also urged residents to be vigilant, lock their vehicles and outbuildings, and report any suspicious activity in the area, following multiple reports of vehicle break-ins on the north side of Leitchfield.
