Lavon Bennett Killed in Greensboro Interstate Shooting

Fatal I-73 shooting marks city’s 42nd homicide of 2025

GREENSBORO, N.C. — Greensboro police are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred early Sunday morning along Interstate 73 South, resulting in the death of 28-year-old Lavon Montreaz Bennett.

Officers were dispatched at approximately 12:52 a.m. to I-73 South just before the West Wendover Avenue exit. Upon arrival, they found Bennett inside a vehicle with injuries consistent with a gunshot wound. He was transported by ambulance to a local hospital, where he later died.

A woman who was also inside the vehicle was found suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. She was taken to the hospital and is expected to survive, police said.

Authorities confirmed this incident marks Greensboro’s 42nd homicide of 2025. At this time, investigators have not released information regarding a suspect or motive.
